Saskatchewan Athletics Return to In-Person NCCP Coaching Education Guidelines

The above document outlines guidelines put in place by Saskatchewan Athletics for in-person coaching education courses in an effort to mitigate the risk of transmission of COVID-19 and keep all participants safe during the courses.

Upcoming Sask Athletics Coaching Courses:

NCCP Run, Jump, Throw, Wheel (RJTW) Instructor

This course provides RJTW leaders with the skills and tools they need to lead sessions ranging from 1-day fun days to day camp programs to once- or twice-a-week programs offered over a few months, in a club or in school. It introduces track and field through fundamental movement skills with games to reinforce those skills.

NCCP Sport Coach

An introduction to Track & Field that teaches the basic skills of all events as well as how to plan a practice and a month of training. It is ideal for the generalist coach that may be coaching introductory-intermediate level athletes in a multiple event context; often in a school or club, or at a junior high-high school level.

NCCP Club Coach

This is an event specific course that teaches a more in-depth technical analysis for one event group and how to plan a season. Coaches can sign up for either sprints, endurance, jumps, throws (including para- throws) or wheelchair racing.

NCCP Performance Coach

Performance Coach is an event specific course ideal for coaches with U20 athletes or older, specializing in one event group, training all-year round, and competing in national competitions.  

Coaches can sign up for one event group: sprints, endurance, throws, jumps, or wheelchair racing.  

Prerequisites:  

  1. Coaches must be Club Coach Certified and be coaching an athlete at U20 or higher who is competing at a National Championship. Exceptions may apply.  
  2. Eligibility will be determined by completing an intake form. Coaches will also need to complete pre course online learning. This can be completed at any time prior to the course start date.  

Saskatchewan Athletics provides assistance to one Performance Coach opportunity per year for their coaches. Those working towards their Performance Coach training and certification should email hpcoach@saskathletics.ca to inquire about assistance.

The goal of this course is to equip community run leaders like you with the knowledge, skills, and tools to empower recreational runners to achieve their goals.

Fundamentals of Athletics – E-Learning Modules
These FREE modules were created to help beginner coaches improve their coaching skills, as well as their knowledge of the rules and safety of track events. In the Safety section coaches will explore important safety considerations when coaching athletics. In the Rules section coaches will test their understanding of the rules. In the Technical sections coaches will apply their knowledge to different coaching scenarios. Each course is worth 1 PD point.

The Coaches Association of Saskatchewan hosts a number of workshops year-round. The most common workshops that are required for coaches in Athletics are:

  • Making Ethical Decisions (under Competition Introduction)
  • Managing Conflict (under Competition Development)
  • Leading Drug Free Sport (under Competition Development)

Clubs and coaches who have questions on what is required should email hpcoach@saskathletics.ca. They will be able to help confirm pathway requirements towards certification.
