Supporters from across Saskatchewan and Canada joined together to celebrate the accomplishments of the Excellence and Recognition Award finalists and recipients at the 40th Annual Saskatchewan Sport Awards on Jan. 30 in Saskatoon.
Saskatchewan Athletics had several athletes and coaches that received recognition at the Sask Sport Awards.
Savannah Sutherland was recognized as a Finalist for the Female Athlete of the Year Award for her strong performances at the Paris Olympic Games in the 400m Hurdles and the 4x400m Relay.
Tyrell Sawatzky was recognized as a Finalist for the Coach of the Year Award for his work in coaching two Para athletes to new Canadian records, as well as coaching a Para athlete to a seventh place finish at the Paris Paralympic Games.
The University of Saskatchewan Huskies Women’s 4x800m Relay Team was honored as the 2024 Team of the Year. 2024 was a standout year for the U of S Women’s 4x800m Relay Team highlighted by Canada West and U Sports Championship gold medals as well as a new school record.
Carla Nicholls was one of three recipients of the Coach Dedication Award for her various contributions to the provincial and national athletics community. Over the last 30 years Carla has had a significant impact on the University of Regina’s track and field team, as well as the Canadian Para Athletics team.
